TOYAh
DOCUMENTARY SHORT
Viewed through a modern gaze (9:16 aspect-ratio) and accompanied by a hypnotic jazz track, the people of Toyah, Texas, air their concerns about small-town life in the endangered and diverse Chihuahuan desert.
A film named after a real west Texas town that is hidden under the northern region of the Texan desert - a small (100 inhabitant) municipality, historically shaped by its endangered ecosystem and its geographic orientation towards the Mexican border. Where despite the changing demographic landscape and increasing climate change catastrophes, its people continue to show a devotion to their land and community. Refusing to abandon their ancestral link to this ecosystem against all odds. The film was produced with a small run-time length in mind and a specific aspect ratio for the purpose of making an experience that feels as if you were peeking through a hole in a wall, or looking out from a window.
