Marcelo De Stefano is a filmmaker from Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico, whose work moves between nonfiction, music, and cinematic visual storytelling. His films often explore the relationship between land, memory, migration, labor, and cultural identity, with a particular focus on Latin America and the U.S.–Mexico border.

He studied Radio, Television & Film at the University of Texas at Austin, and has worked across writing, production, distribution, and filmmaking. His path has included work as a columnist for the Mexican arts magazine PICNIC, creative producer for the nonprofit Cero Pobreza, and sales and distribution assistant coordinator at the Marché du Film in Cannes for XYZ Films.

From 2020 to 2021, he directed two music videos for the Colombian band FatsO, with work selected by Austin Music Video Festival and Bogotá Music Video Festival. In 2022, filmmaker Richard Linklater selected his documentary Valle for the Texas Water Foundation Award.

Most recently, Marcelo released Badlands / Malpaís in 2025, a documentary developed alongside Werner Herzog around the aftermath of the La Palma volcanic eruption, commemorating the third anniversary of the disaster. The film was nominated in the category – New Voices from Latin America at Santiago Wild Film Festival in Chile, organized by National Geographic & Ladera Sur.
